Ivana Filipović/Ivana Filipovich/Ивана Филиповић, is a Serbian-Canadian artist with a background in educational media, architecture, archaeology and design. She is the winner of the 2023 Doug Wright Award for the best self-published/micro-press book in Canada for her career-spanning collection of short literary comics WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, available on Amazon. Called “Chekhov in the Funny Papers” by The Comics Journal, she is deeply interested in psychology and aims to portray complex adult characters and themes. Mainly focused on slice-of-life stories, she occasionally ventures into other genres. Stylistically close to French and Italian cartooning, she uses both traditional and digital tools. The Canada Council for the Arts supported her exploration of 3D storyboarding upon her return to cartooning after a two-decade-long hiatus. Her first graphic novel, WHAT’S FEAR GOT TO DO WITH IT, is published by Conundrum Press–Canada’s acclaimed publisher of literary comics. Librairie Drawn & Quarterly listed the book as one of the highlights for September 2023, and CBC included it as one of the 20 Canadian comics to check out in fall 2023.
